Sustainability is a central concern in all subwave Internet projects.
This affects the way we conduct the SWIZ.BIZ online shop.
We use for example recycled boxes and shipping material for most of our sendings. This may look not as perfect as brandnew boxes, but helps protecting the environment. The products we sell are in high quality and long lasting. Mechanical watches we repair for little money in our own repair shop. We sell no more meat products. Vegan nutrition is much healthier; also our personal conviction. We use the car (or an airplane..) very rarely, most daily distances (even for logistics) are done by feet or bicycle. We produce as little garbage as possible. Our computers are sun powered.
Our work should not make us rich - profit maximization has almost become foreign words for us. It makes nobody happy. All profit we generate is re-invested in sustainable ways.
Other subwave projects are about solar energy (we built our own plant), for cultural events - and also nonprofit: for the first really fair insurance worldwide - help-account.com.
SWIZ.BIZ is the idea of an architect who was traveling in the US, South Africa and other places where Swiss chocolate or cheese products were goods in short supply. With the help of 3 friends, the first typical Swiss international onlineshop went online in the fall of 2004. Meanwhile, with a new team, it became a quite successful business (not that much in the current recession though), the site has some 1000 visitors every day and more products are added every week. We can supply now almost every imaginable swiss product - from the Zena REX Peeler to Rolex watches.
The "Swiss Made" aspect
Not every product in our shop is 100% made in Switzerland, with some of them, it’s the idea, the design or the marketing that are made in Switzerland.
Swiss Made; as reported by Matthew Allen on swissinfo.com on April 6, 2008: The Swiss government wants to replace vague laws with concrete rules to crack down on abuses of "made in Switzerland" and Swiss cross labels. Consumer groups have welcomed the idea, but business leaders want flexibility.
Proposals under consideration: At least 60% of research, development and manufacturing costs should be in Switzerland and that food products should be made of at least 90% home-grown ingredients to qualify as Swiss made.
The Consumer Protection Association wants to see for example an end to Swiss branded cheeses containing milk from Polish or German cows. "This is absurd. For Swiss consumers the milk in Swiss cheeses comes from Swiss cows. Whatever has a Swiss cross or Swiss origin on it must have Swiss [ingredients] in it," the association stated.
However, food giant Nestlé did not think that the origin of raw materials made much of a difference to consumers. "I don't think people really mind where the milk comes from when they buy, for example, chocolate. They buy it because they like the finished product," spokesman Francois-Xavier Perroud told swissinfo.
Switzerland, a small country (41.293 km2, 6.9 Mio. inhabitants) in the heart of Europe, is known for its beautiful mountains and lakes. There are however, a
number of other positive attributes which are associated with this country, its people and its products. For instance, Switzerland has developed an international reputation for producing high quality and innovative products and services. The goal of our Web site is to provide a user-friendly and informative online experience to consumers who would like to purchase some of the best products Switzerland has to offer.
SWIZ.BIZ was established in 2004. Since 1995, we
have expanded our online sales channel to include international fulfillment and
distribution, with an emphasis on wristwatches.
